Our School

St. Joseph'sSt. Joseph’s is a denominational school which caters for boys and girls.

The school was built in 1953 and we are fortunate in having spacious accommodation. There are eight classrooms, an A.V. room, a General Purpose room, library, a large gym hall with stage, a kitchen and a dining hall.

At present there are 143 children although the school can accommodate more. Parents should note that the working capacity of the school may vary dependent upon the number of pupils at each stage and the way in which the classes are organised.

We are determined to make sure that every pupil is supported throughout the school, fairly and equally regardless of circumstances. We call this social justice and it’s about making sure that all our pupils are given an equal chance to reach their potential.
In meeting the needs of all our pupils we will demonstrate no discrimination on the basis of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation religion or belief. This encompasses curricular, extra curricular and classroom activities and is foremost in the attitudes that we develop in our pupils.

We impress upon our children that they are “Ambassadors” for St. Joseph’s and that people in the neighbourhood make judgements about the school when they come into contact with them.

We think of others who are less fortunate than ourselves and regularly donate to local and national charities such as Yorkhill Hospital, SCIAF, Help the Aged, Children First, Ardgowan Hospice etc. We enlist the help of members of community to talk to us about their specialist subjects – e.g. community police, health centre staff, coastguard, book authors and representatives of charity organisations.

We try to support local competitions – e.g. Inverclyde Festival, Sports Hall Athletics, running competitions locally and further afield as well as football tournaments, netball tournaments etc.

We share our buildings with Bluebird Family Centre (Tel: 715722) and the Community Education Department. Bluebird Centre takes children from 3-5 years of age.
There is a drop-in centre and a playscheme in the Community Education wing.
